This part of Surrey has always been a stronghold of the game of cricket, and a large number of public houses in the district have names relating to the game. This pub opened its doors in 1853 when, as well as a pub, it also doubled up as a carpenter’s and a furniture dealer’s, and is still going strong.
Its first recorded landlord was W. Chuter who was there until 1859 when it was taken over by his wife.
